Scenario

Customer has installed the GroPulse Paid Version, added the GTM Container ID, and wants to connect it with Google Tag Assistant (GTM Preview mode) to verify events.

Important Clarification

GroPulse sends events to Google Tag Manager using Shopify’s Web Pixel API.

Because of Shopify’s Web Pixel limitations:

  • Events will NOT appear in Google Tag Assistant Preview / Debug View
  • “Site not connected” inside Tag Assistant is expected behavior
  • This is not a setup error

Shopify Web Pixels do not support traditional GTM preview debugging.

How GroPulse Tracking Works

  1. Shopify Web Pixel captures store events.
  2. Events are sent to Google Tag Manager (GTM).
  3. GTM forwards events to configured tag destinations (GA4, Facebook, etc.).

Since the Web Pixel runs differently from standard GTM scripts, preview mode will not detect it.

How to Properly Verify Event Tracking

Instead of using GTM Preview mode, events must be verified from the destination platforms.

  • Google Analytics 4 → Realtime Report
  • Facebook Events Manager → Test Events
  • Other connected platforms inside GTM

Perform test actions on your store:

  • View a product
  • Add to cart
  • Initiate checkout
  • Complete purchase

Then check the realtime or test event dashboard of the connected platform.

If events appear there, tracking is working correctly.

How to Verify Server-Side Event Tracking

GroPulse provides real-time server-side event logs inside the app.

To Check Server-Side Event Logs:

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin
  2. Open the GroPulse (GTM) App
  3. From the app menu bar, click Server-Side Event Logs
  4. Perform actions on your store (add to cart, checkout, purchase, etc.)
  5. You will see the events appear in real time inside the log panel

This confirms that server-side tracking is functioning properly.

Server-Side Events Currently Supported

Server-side events are available for:

  • Google Analytics 4
  • Facebook Pixel

Available Server-Side Events:

Server-side purchases
Process purchase events on the server for improved reliability and conversion tracking.

Server-side checkouts
Track checkout initiation events server-side.

Server-side add to cart
Process add to cart events on the server for more accurate tracking.

Server-side collection views
Track collection views server-side for better analytics accuracy.

Server-side tracking improves reliability, reduces data loss from ad blockers, and enhances conversion accuracy for advertising platforms.

Troubleshooting Checklist (If No Events Are Tracking)

If no events appear in your destination platforms, please recheck the following:

1. App Activation

  • Go to Shopify Admin → Apps → GroPulse
  • Ensure the app is activated

2. Ensure Custom Pixel Is Connected in Shopify Customer Events

  • Go to your Shopify Admin
  • Navigate to Settings
  • Click on Customer Events
  • Locate the Custom Pixel
  • Make sure the GroPulse GTM Data Layer’s Custom pixel is Connected

3. GTM Container ID

  • Confirm the correct GTM ID is added
  • Format should be: GTM-XXXXXXX
  • Click Save

4. Data Layer Activation

  • Go to GroPulse → Data Layer Settings
  • Enable required eCommerce events
  • Click Save

5. Import GTM Template

  • Download the GTM template from GroPulse
  • Import it into your Google Tag Manager container
  • Ensure tags are properly configured

6. Publish GTM Container

  • Click Submit inside GTM
  • Publish the container
  • Make sure you are testing the latest published version

Google Tag Assistant Shows “Site is Not Connected”

Issue

When using Google Tag Assistant (GTM Preview Mode), you see the message:

“Site is not connected”

Is This an Error?

No. This is expected behavior when using GroPulse with Shopify.

GroPulse sends events to Google Tag Manager using Shopify’s Web Pixel API. Shopify Web Pixels do not support Google Tag Assistant preview debugging.

Because of this limitation, GTM Preview mode cannot detect the connection, even when tracking is working properly.

Why This Happens

Shopify’s Customer Events (Web Pixel) system runs differently from traditional GTM script installations.

Google Tag Assistant only detects standard GTM script injections, not Shopify Web Pixel events.

So the message “Site is not connected” does not mean tracking is broken.

How to Properly Verify Tracking

Instead of GTM Preview, verify events using:

• Google Analytics 4 → Realtime Report
• Facebook Events Manager → Test Events
• GroPulse → Server-Side Event Logs (if enabled)

How to Check Server-Side Logs

  1. Open Shopify Admin
  2. Go to GroPulse app
  3. Click “Server-Side Event Logs”
  4. Perform actions on your store
  5. View events appearing in real time

Cancel Subscription / Stop Renewal

If you do not want to renew your plan, do NOT uninstall the app. To cancel your subscription correctly:

  1. Open the GTM app inside Shopify Admin
  2. Go to Pricing Plan page
  3. Select the Free Plan
  4. Confirm the downgrade

This will stop future renewals.
