Problem

A customer wants to see or track the IP address of visitors on their website.

Example customer questions:

  • How do I monitor visitor IP?
  • Can I see user IP addresses in GA4?
  • How do I track the IP of my visitors?
  • Where can I see visitor IP in analytics?
  • Can I export visitor IP addresses?

Cause

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) does not collect, store, or display individual visitor IP addresses.

This is due to privacy regulations such as GDPR and other data protection policies.

GA4 automatically anonymizes IP addresses. The IP address is used only temporarily to determine general location data (such as country or city), and then it is discarded.

Solution

Because of GA4 privacy policies:

  • You cannot view individual visitor IP addresses
  • You cannot export IP address data
  • You cannot monitor IP-level user activity

GA4 only provides aggregated geographic information, such as:

  • Country
  • Region
  • City

These reports can be viewed in the Demographics section of GA4.
